Your Apple Developer account will be the “home” for your apps and identify your apps as belonging to your organization. Don't worry, Pathable will still be building and submitting your app to the App Store, but it must be done from an account that belongs to your organization.
The Apple Developer account MUST be in the name of the organization that actually owns the event, not a third-party agency, even if the agency is working on behalf of the organization.
For example, if an agency called "Amazing Events" has a client called "SuperTech," and the event that Amazing Events is working on is the SuperTech User Conference, the Developer account must be established by SuperTech, NOT Amazing Events.
Note that this requirement only applies to Apple's iOS App Store. Unless you require it, Pathable will continue to host and submit your Android apps through our Google Play Developer Account.
As the person enrolling your organization in the Apple Developer Program, you must have the legal authority to bind your organization to legal agreements. You must be the organization’s owner/founder, executive team member, senior project lead, or have legal authority granted to you by a senior employee.
Step 1: Remember or obtain an Apple ID
If you do not already have an Apple ID associated with your corporate email address, create one now.
- Visit developer.apple.com
- Click Account> Create Apple ID
Step 2: Verify or enroll for a D-U-N-S number
The D-U-N-S Number is a unique nine-digit number maintained by Dun & Bradstreet (D&B) that identifies business entities. The D-U-N-S Number is widely used as a standard business identifier and Apple requires it to verify your business. It is free to obtain a D-U-N-S number for your business.
To view or obtain a D-U-N-S number, visit https://developer.apple.com/enroll/duns-lookup/ and enter your organization’s information. If you have a D-U-N-S number, it will be displayed. If not, you’ll sign up for it there.
Step 3: Enroll in Apple Developer
- Visit developer.apple.com
- Log in with your Apple ID from Step 2.
- Agree to the Developer Terms of Service to turn your Apple ID in to an Apple developer ID (fancy!). From now on, this Apple ID will be called the "Account Holder" and is the master administrator for the account.
Here are the steps to make the developer account:
- For Entity Type, choose “Company/Organization” if a for-profit organization, and “Nonprofit Organization” if a nonprofit. Apple waives the $99/yr developer fee for nonprofits.
- Confirm that you are permitted to act on your company’s behalf, and provide company information, including D-U-N-S number from Step 1
- Agree to the Apple Terms of Service
- Confirm the Apple ID Information, Entity Type, and Contact Information
- If you would like automatic renewals, select the auto-renewal box (this is optional, though recommended), then click ‘Purchase’ to enroll and pay for your annual iOS Developer Account.
Apple will send a confirmation email within 24 hours notifying you that your iOS Developer Account was successfully created.
Step 4: Add your Client Happiness Manager as an admin to your developer account
Action required: Once you’ve received the confirmation email, log in to https://appstoreconnect.apple.com/access/users.
- Select the Plus symbol to invite a new user.
- On the New User screen, input the following:
- First Name: David
- Last Name: Howard
- Email address: firstname.lastname@example.org
- Role: App Manager
- Apps: leave as-is
- Developer Resources: check the box to allow access
App Store Connect will automatically send an email invitation to your Happiness Manager to invite them into your account, but it’s a good idea to check in with them, because the invitation email does get swept up in spam filters on rare occasions.
